Dental Trauma and Sports Dentistry: Prevention and Treatment
Sports play a very important part in the lives of many of our patients. Not just high level and professional athletes, but kids and weekend warriors as well. Most players put themselves at risk of dental injuries when participating in these activities. Sports dentistry is the part of sports medicine that, in addition to other things, deals with the treatment and prevention of these injuries. How to handle dental injury emergencies and how to prevent them from happening is important for the dental professional especially in the context of the active athlete. In addition, it is critical that dentists be able to communicate with other sports medical personnel, parents, coaches and school nurses if injuries occur.
Updates in Pediatric Dentistry for the Active Child, Part One
This pre-recorded webinar is the first part of a two part lecture highlighting various topics of pediatric dentistry for the active child. This first part will cover the very young patient (0-2 years), preschoolers (3-5 years) and a significant part of early school age (6-12). We will talk about pacifier use and the important area of screening for airway difficulties and sleep disordered breathing. This will bring non pediatric dental professionals up to speed on many topics but it will also be valuable for pediatric dentists, hygienists and staff who can put what they do in a context of what others are doing.
Updates in Pediatric Dentistry for the Active Child, Part Two
Following up on the first part of this two part lecture, we will complete the dental trauma part by highlighting some new treatment options for traumatized teeth such as decoronation, autotransplantation and Regenerative Endodontics Procedures (REPs). We will concentrate on the “older” child, ages 13-18. The major section of this will cover the world of sports dentistry as sports plans a very important role in the lives of kids in this group.
