Dr. Nicolaas Geurs is Weatherford /Palcanis endowed Professor and chair of Periodontology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his dental degree at A.C.T.A. (Free University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands) in 1992. He completed his training in Periodontology and his Master’s in Clinical Dentistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1992-1995. He is a Diplomate and serves as an examiner of the American Board of Periodontology. He is committed to education in periodontology and implantology to dental students, residents and the dental community. His research interest includes periodontitis and systemic health, periodontal pharmaco-therapeutics, regeneration, dental implantology, implant complications and maintenance. He has published his research in the Journal of Periodontology, The International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Clinical Advances in Periodontology amongst others. He is a nationally and internationally recognized speaker. Previous invitations to speak include: The annual meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology, The Taiwanese Academy of Periodontology, The Indian Society of dental research, The Dutch Society of Periodontology, The Florida Academy of Periodontology, the Florida National Dental Conference, and The Alabama Dental Association Annual meeting. He has presented Continuing Education seminars at various study clubs in many States in the USA and internationally in Peru, Guatemala, The Netherlands, Spain, India, and Japan. He has been a speaker for Concord Seminars since 2013 and aims to engage the audience in a discussion about topics related to the everyday care for our patients.
