Biography
Dr. Steven Bookless has been practicing for 35 years. His formal medical / dental education started at Cornell Medical School in the Surgeon’s Assistant Training Program. Upon completion of the program Dr. Bookless joined the staff of The New York Hospital, New York Firefighters Burns Center. His duties at the center included the management of severely burned patients in the center’s ICU step-down unit. In addition, Dr. Bookless first assisted on all major Operating Room cases, conducted research, published, and served as a senior technician in the center’s skin bank. During his time at the burn center Dr. Bookless became interested in facial reconstruction of burn victims during a combined OR case in collaboration with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service at the hospital. Dr. Bookless completed his dental education at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. After graduation from UTHSC San Antonio he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Cincinnati and became an associate in a full scope oral surgery practice. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Fellow of The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and served as treasurer of the Rhode Island Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. In 2001 Dr. Bookless retired from private practice to pursue an academic career. Dr. Bookless retired from academic practice in 2020 and is currently focused on providing continuing education. Dr. Bookless and his colleagues taught medical emergency management to the dental students in a multi-million-dollar, state-of-the-art simulation lab at the medical center. His interests include outpatient surgery, sedation, management of medically compromised patients, and medical emergencies in an outpatient setting.
