Domestic Violence: What Dental Professionals Should Know and Do
This self-study written class will explore the various types of domestic violence, prevention, reporting and support and protection for those victims. All healthcare professionals should be alert to the signs of each of these and know the laws governing the assessment and reporting of such abuse.
Ethical Behavior in Dentistry
This class deals with ethical behavior in dentistry and will discuss four different situations that could challenge ethical behavior. Conflict of interest, dual relationships, confidentiality, and impaired colleagues are four common ethical difficulties presented to all those in medical practice.
Ethics for Dentistry
This class presents a basic understanding of the principles and theories of medical ethics, the difference between ethical, moral and legal and contains an ethical decision-making tool for resolution of ethical dilemmas faced daily by dentists. The Code is referenced in relation to those principles and theories and several case studies are included.
HIV/AIDS
This class will include the disease itself, HIV and its life cycle, testing and diagnosis and current treatment. People are living longer with the disease and research continues on effective treatments and hopefully a cure at some point. Universal precautions taken with every patient became the standard of care for all those in the medical community including dentistry during the epidemic.
