Course Description

Your Patient is Addicted to Nicotine: What is Your Plan?
Dental Professionals have a unique opportunity to share life-saving information with their patients that are addicted to nicotine products. Although smoking rates have declined there are still over 36 million adults that smoke in the U.S.A. This course will give the dental team the tools needed to be able to start their patient’s journey of becoming free of smoking, vaping, and dipping. This session will cover products that patients are using, medications that can be utilized in treatment, a systematic approach to determining their level of addiction, and Motivational Interviewing techniques. Dental treatment provides an opening for counseling to begin by discussing the many benefits to stopping smoking. This course is designed to increase the confidence of the dental provider in having the opportunity to support their patient during the difficult task of fighting their addiction.
