Course Description

Geriatric Dentistry, Special Patient Care

This course is designed for the dental practitioner and staff and is an in-depth look at how we may not see things in the mouth or head and neck areas that can be and are detrimental to our patient’s overall health, both oral and systemically. We need to understand the pathways in which oral disease and systemic diseases are connected and how we can make treatment choices that are and will be favorable. Various techniques on examining our older patients will be discussed and reviewed as well as the discussion about diseases in general. Learning to make treatment choices are important in the scheme of things and various modalities will be discussed as well for older patients with the use of “MID,” Minimally Invasive Dentistry. Communication with the older, infirm and healthy patients will be delved into for understanding our limits and effective techniques to help us get the needed treatment necessary, or not.

“The educational teaching methodology used in this course is live, interactive lecture presented via Zoom webinar with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Both the live webinar and the PowerPoint presentation incorporate a variety of audio and visual cues to enhance audience members’ understanding and retention of key concepts. In addition, question and answer periods are provided for at the conclusion of each section of the live webinar.”
