Course Description

Oral Pathology

This live webinar is designed to provide the participant with an overview of the historical uses of what is described as “alternative and complementary” approaches to treatment for head and neck lesions throughout the years. The course will provide current uses of these more traditional approaches with some cautionary implications of modern medications that may be used with these traditional approaches. Given the cultural diversity within the United States of America, it’s important to recognize that many cultures are bringing their own customs and practices with them. As a practitioner/clinician, having the relevant insights into current research and acceptable uses of these products is paramount.

The course will present the following:

  1. Origins and historical background and perspective/the history of TM
  2. Past treatment and therapies
  3. What therapies still exist and continue today?
  4. Drug interactions to consider
  5. The commonly practiced traditional treatment today
  6. Drug interactions with common patient medications
  7. Present treatment and what has been of benefit
  8. Adverse reactions of herbal/complementary and alternative medications and supplements
  9. Present clinical trials and what is currently known.
  10. What traditional/alternative products are available today, and are these products commonly used by oral medicine patients?
  11. Randomized, controlled trials currently available will be discussed.

“The educational teaching methodology used in this course is live, interactive lecture presented via Zoom webinar with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Both the live webinar and the PowerPoint presentation incorporate a variety of audio and visual cues to enhance audience members’ understanding and retention of key concepts. In addition, question and answer periods are provided for at the conclusion of each section of the live webinar.”
