What is my Renewal Cycle?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - Most licenses expire in the first birth month following issuance and are renewable annually thereafter. Most licensees can expect to receive renewal notification approximately 60 days prior to expiration.
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - Most licenses expire in the first birth month following issuance and are renewable annually thereafter. Most licensees can expect to receive renewal notification approximately 60 days prior to expiration
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - Every Two Years

How Much Continuing Education Do I Need?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - Licensed dentists shall earn a minimum of twenty-five contact hours of qualifying continuing education every two years. One contact hour is a minimum of fifty minutes of continuing education activity.
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - Each licensed dental hygienist applying for license renewal shall earn a minimum of sixteen hours of continuing education within the preceding twenty-four-month period.
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - Must complete at least 1 hour of training or education in infection control every two years, via in-person or online courses offered by a dental school or an accredited higher education institution that is recognized by the CODA, the American Dental Association (ADA), or any association or society affiliated with the ADA or American Dental Assistants Association. EFDAs are required to maintain DANB CDA or COA certification; therefore, they must completeDANB’s Recertification Requirements annually, which include 12 continuing education (CE) credits (for certificants who hold one certification)

What, if Any, Are The Mandatory Subjects?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - "The continuing education shall (1) be in an area of the licensee's practice; (2) reflect the professional needs of the licensee in order to meet the health care needs of the public; and (3) include not less than one contact hour of training or education in (A) any three of the ten mandatory topics for continuing education activities prescribed by the Commissioner, (B) for registration periods beginning on and after October 1, 2016, infection control in a dental setting, and (C) prescribing controlled substances and pain management. The ten (10) mandatory topics for continuing education activities prescribed by the Commissioner are: Prescribing controlled substances and pain management; Record keeping/risk management,; Infection control; Access to care; HIPAA compliance; Medical emergencies in the dental office (including current training in CPR); Sexual assault and domestic abuse; Cultural competence; Mental health conditions common to veterans; and Diagnostic technology."
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - Dental hygienists must complete at least one hour of training or education in infection control in a dental setting and for registration periods beginning on and after October 1, 2017, one contact hour in cultural competency.
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - Maintenance of continuous, hands-on CPR, BLS or ACLS certification from a DANB-approved provider.

Is There a Limit to The Number of Online Classes

Internet-based, on-line and other distance learning opportunities are acceptable.
