What is my Renewal Cycle?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - Dentist's licenses expire on March 1st of even numbered years. The next renewal date is March 1, 2024
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - Dental Hygienist's licenses expire on March 1st of even numbered years. The next renewal date is March 1, 2024
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - N/A

How Much Continuing Education Do I Need?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - Dentists are required to have completed twenty (20) hours of continuing education
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - Dental Hygienists are required to have completed nineteen (19) hours of continuing education
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - There are no continuing education (CE) requirements for dental assistants in the state of Indiana.

What, if Any, Are The Mandatory Subjects?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - "Effective July 1st, 2019, pursuant to Senate Enrolled Act 225-2018, a practitioner who is licensed by a board and applies for registration or re-registration to distribute or dispense a controlled substance must have completed two (2) hours of continuing education addressing the topic of opioid prescribing and opioid abuse. They are also required to complete a two (2) hour course which covers Ethics, Professional Responsibility and the Indiana Statutes and Administrative Rules per renewal period In order to renew a permit to administer general anesthesia, deep sedation, or light parenteral conscious sedation, a dentist shall obtain five (5) hours of continuing education in every license period in the area of anesthesia"
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - Only two (2) hours for basic life support may be applied toward the credit hour requirement during each renewal period Two (2) hour course which covers Ethics, Professional Responsibility and the Indiana Statutes and Administrative Rules per renewal period
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - A dental assistant must obtain a limited dental radiographic license from the Indiana State Department of Health(opens in a new window)/Division of Radiology and Weights & Measures.

Is There a Limit to The Number of Online Classes

Online courses are acceptable to fulfill one-half the continuing education requirement for dentists and dental hygienists. The course must be approved by one of the accrediting bodies.
