Course Description
Geriatric Dentistry, Special Patient Care
This course is designed for the dental practitioner, the dental team: dental hygienists, and assistants and any other ancillary dental personnel, to educate them on the factors that affect extending their lives and general health, as well as that of their patients, especially their older patients.
We will look at the demographics of aging.
We will see what we need to do to treat the older adult.
We will learn some communication skills that will help us deliver better care.
We will learn about different treatment modalities available.
We will learn what happens to us as we age and what we need to learn to stay healthy and productive.
Course Objectives
At the completion of this course the participants should be able to:
- Recognize the differences in medically compromised individuals with oral and systemic disease and appropriate dental treatment
- Improve and learn new communication techniques
- Improve diagnosis and treatment plans on medically compromised individuals
- Make good treatment decisions based on available information, disease and finances available; both for you and your patient
- Provide the best care available to a our patient and ourselves
- Learn how to understand who your "audience" is and how to increase your level of care with older patients.
